How Friends of Stag Have Helped

A vital purpose of the Friends of Stag organisation is the raising of funds by subscription and donation from members and sponsors, and by holding fundraising events.

Our Constitution commits us to support activities in all areas of the Centre by donation, from the funds raised, to enable the purchase of equipment and to enhance the operation of the Centre for the benefit of patrons, hirers and staff alike.

The Committee decides on the allocation of our funds, and it can be seen from the range of equipment purchase our donations have already enabled, that we try to cover as many areas of activity as possible. We will endeavour to put funds towards items that the Stag might not otherwise purchase, or does not fall within the scope of general maintenance.

To date we have raised over £30,000.....and would like to do more!

2017

Refurbishment of the entrance to the Plaza Suite, improving the vestibule and creating new office and storage space for the hard-working STAG team

2016

• Just under £10,000 has been donated to redecorate and refurnish the upper bar/café.

2015

• A new hot drinks machine has been purchased for the upper foyer bar following a generous donation in memory of Penny Fleming, a former Friends of Stag member and volunteer at the Stag, who died in June 2015. This has been something patrons and hirers of the Stag have been requesting for a long time and will be greatly appreciated.

2014

• New sound equipment has been purchased for the theatre including a new digital sound desk, speakers and microphones. This has been a significant upgrade to the sound systems, hirers and audiences alike should reap the benefit. Friends of Stag contributed £4,850 to achieve this.

2013

• Ice Buckets and Tongs - Just small items, that make a big difference! Two ice buckets and tongs have been bought for use in the main and Plaza bars.

• Adoption of theatre auditorium seat - with the theatre seats soon to be refurbished Friends of Stag have 'adopted' a 2nd seat.

2012

• Motorised Tabs - These significantly enhance the operation of the tabs (curtains). We have contributed £5,300 for their purchase.

2011

• Sponsor of seat in the auditorium (in the name of Friends of Stag) - This contributes to the ongoing public appeal for sponsorship to enable the replacement of the seating in the main auditorium
• Sound System - This is in support of the regular youth events held in the Plaza Suite. It improves the quality of sound reproduction beyond that which the young musicians can themselves provide.
• Technical Items - We donated £2,000 for the purchase of technical items on the wish-list of the newly appointed Technical Manager. These were mainly microphones and parcans (lights).

2010

• Projection Screen for the Plaza Suite - The purchase of this was made possible because of a bequest from the estate of a late Friend. It significantly enhances the facility offering to hirers of the Plaza Suite.
• CCTV system for Theatre - This enables visual communication between backstage, dressing rooms and stage door.
• Automatic dimmer switches for the Cinemas - These eliminate the need for the technician physically to go to the auditorium doors to lower and raise the lighting levels in the Cinemas.
• Digital Projector with wireless communication for Plaza Suite - This was purchased to complement the screen, above, reducing the need for hirers to bring in their own equipment.
• Servicing of bleacher seating - This seating had been out of use for a considerable time and needed significant maintenance and refurbishment to restore it to full functionality.

2009

• Apex Radio System - This allows technical and other staff to communicate with one another by radio-telephone throughout the Centre.
• Urns for Plaza Suite and Foyer Coffee Bar - These, seemingly insignificant items, improved the service offered at both catering points.
• Picture Hanging System for the Bar - This enabled another art form to be represented within the Centre by allowing local artists to display their work on the wall in the Bar.
